Dunhuang Colors, Dreams Drawn by Children

2024-12-21
Jiuquan, in Gansu Province, an ancient and mysterious land, has not only nurtured the millennia-old culture of Dunhuang but also witnessed the warm footprints of Le'An public welfare project THE EDISON SCHOOL, a remote teaching initiative. In this place where sunlight and sand intertwine to create Dunhuang's unique patterns, we invited the children of Majiquan Primary School in Guazhou County to depict these ancient designs carefully, bestowing them with new colors and jointly experiencing the magical charm of China's artistic treasures. In the new year, we pass on this beauty and blessing to everyone who holds dreams in their hearts.
Brushstrokes of the Millennia at Dunhuang
The patterned designs of the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang represent a treasure trove of ancient Chinese art, evolving over thousands of years from the simplicity and clarity  of the Northern Dynasties to the richness and  diversity of the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Although the original colors of Dunhuang patterns are hard to fully ascertain, the children's imagination breathed new vitality into them. Under their brushes, the ancient patterns shine with new radiance and each painting is filled with innocence, childlike joy, and vibrant vitality.
Among so many coloring creations, we have selected 12 pieces that are the most childlike and creative to make the 2025 calendar. These pieces not only embody the beautiful meanings passed down through millennia but also integrate the children's boundless imagination and creativity. This is a gift of time co-created by THE EDISON SCHOOL and the children.
Le'An Public Welfare
All along, Le'An has been committed to supporting public education through its philanthropic sub-brand THE EDISON SCHOOL by funding the construction of remote multimedia classrooms in schools in remote areas, providing local students with equipment, materials, and courses. This initiative aims to improve school infrastructure and teaching environments, enrich the curriculum, and help children see a broader and more beautiful world, enjoying the joy of learning. The paintings in this calendar come from the second-grade students of Majiquan Primary School in Guazhou County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, a school supported by THE EDISON SCHOOL.
